This is a great recipe to make with the kids!
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
With a wooden spoon in a large bowl mix in:
3 1/2 cups flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
2 cups bulgar (cracked wheat)
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup instant nonfat dry milk powder
4 teaspoons salt
Notes:
If your dog is on a no-salt diet, omit the salt and use 2 teaspoons of garlic powder.
If your dog is allergic to corn, omit cornmeal and increase bulgar to 3 cups.
In a separate bowl, dissolve:
1 envelope active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
Add to dry ingredients:
Yeast mixture
3 cups chicken broth
Mix well.
Roll out dough until 1/4 inch thick. Use bone shaped cookie cutter or be creative and put on greased cookie sheets.
If shiny effect is desired, brush dough with glaze made by beating together:
1 egg
1 teaspoon milk
Bake 45 minutes then turn oven off and leave bones in oven overnight to harden.
Makes about 30 biscuits for your favorite dog.
